aloo is easy to use, but we've thought through security down to the last detail.
Yes. The Start plan is free, with no ads and no data collection — in it you can create up to 6 conversations yourself. Conversations and groups created by someone else don't count towards the limit. For more of your own conversations, use the Professional plan.
No. We don't use the cloud and do not store messages or metadata. Communication stays only between devices.
No one can access your account without your password, or your biometrics. On a new device you register again — and if you have a backup (an .aloobak file protected by its own password), you can restore your complete message history from it. Without a backup, history does not transfer.
Not yet. We are prioritising the mobile app for iOS and Android.
Groups are fully encrypted and invitations are exchanged securely between devices. No one else has access. You build a group from people you already have a conversation with, and it's managed by whoever created it.
Yes — voice and video calls, always one-to-one. They run primarily directly between devices (P2P) over WebRTC, recover after dropouts and network switches, and on iOS they integrate with CallKit. Group calls aren't available in aloo yet.
aloo can back up your encryption key and complete message history to an .aloobak file, protected by its own password separate from your login. You restore it when signing in or registering on a new device. If a backup is missing or older than 30 days, the app reminds you.
Through alooID — a unique identifier you share, scan from a QR code, or open via an aloo:// link. You can then search, block, and filter contacts.
You decide, and separately for each conversation. Choose 1 day, 2 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 180 days, or no automatic deletion. Everything stays only on your devices.
