aloo is easy to use, but we've thought through security down to the last detail.
Yes. The Start version is free for communication with up to 6 people, with no ads and no data collection. For more people, you'll need the Professional version.
No. We don't use the cloud and do not store messages or metadata. Communication stays only between devices.
Without your biometrics, no one can access your account. On a new device you register again — and if you have a backup (an .aloobak file protected by its own password), you can restore your complete message history from it. Without a backup, history does not transfer.
Not yet. We are prioritizing development of the mobile app.
Groups are fully encrypted, and invitations are exchanged securely between devices. No one else has access.
Yes. Calls run primarily directly between devices (P2P) over WebRTC with the Opus codec. They recover after dropouts and network switches, and on iOS they integrate with CallKit.
aloo can back up your encryption key and complete message history to an .aloobak file, protected by its own password separate from your login. You restore it when signing in or registering on a new device. If a backup is missing or older than 30 days, the app reminds you.
Through alooID — a unique identifier you share, scan from a QR code, or open via an aloo:// link. You can then search, block, and filter contacts.
You decide. Set a retention time from 1 day up to 180 days, or keep messages with no automatic deletion. Everything stays only on your devices.
